Nazareth: Surviving The Law

If you’ve not heard of Nazareth by now, where have you been?!?!.

It’s safe to say that this band is legendary with a string of albums in the 70`s that were required listening for any self respecting Rock fan, and I’m talking about Razamanaz, Hair Of The Dog and Loud `N` Proud here.

The 2022 Nazareth set up has just Bassist Pete Agnew surviving from the original line up, with crucially singer Dan McCafferty having to retire sometime back due to ongoing health issues. So do the present day band stack up to that classic period that’s still thought so fondly of by their fans? The band has certainly found a gem in newish vocalist Carl Sentance who definitely leaves his mark on the material featured here. `Strange Days` is a fiery opener with an real urgency to it, and `You Got To Pass It Around` feeds the appetite for those who like it deep down and dirty.

`Runaway` gallops along like a true thoroughbred, before making way for `Better Leave It Out` which struts its stuff with an air of Aerosmith funkiness about it.

The rest of the album is made of superb rockers such as the delightfully titled `Ciggies and Booze`, `Psycho Skies` and `Let The Whiskey Flow`, all being numbers that display a sense of joy, but also with one crafty eye on the seamier side of life...If you get my meaning!

The only track that approaches anywhere near a ballad is the final track `You Made Me` which is a smoky blues flavoured tune, but is not out of place amongst the rest of the album.

It’s quite plain that the band have had something of a renaissance in these past few years and the quality of the material on display here tells me that they have no intention of giving up anytime soon. This is a solid Hard Rock album from one of the genre`s most revered bands, and long may they continue!
