Tower: Shock To The System

Instead of going to the future, listening to the New York City heavy metal band Tower is like taking a trip into the past, more precisely the late ‘70s and early ‘80s when the NWOBHM reigned supreme. Tower released their first album titled Tower in 2016, followed by the EP Tomorrow and Yesterday in 2019. The band is back with their sophomore 2021 effort Shock to the System, a beast of an album to be sure.

The album roars out of the gate with the powerful and catchy “Blood Moon” where the chugging riffs have a Maiden-esque feel and the lead vocals of Sarabeth Linden are as powerful as you will here as she holds nothing back, traveling from stratospheric highs to the lower end with ease. This lady has a great range, and the best part is she never sounds forced, it all sounds perfectly natural. Next is the slower “Prince Of Darkness” where the guitar has a hint of doom, blending the best of ‘70s influenced hard rock and metal. The searing instrumental “Metatron”, the glorious hard rock of “Lay Down The Law”, and the heavy metal chug of “Running Out Of Time” are more stand out tracks.

Tower leave nothing on the table, the energy and power are palpable, and the band play with a ferocious gusto that must be really something in a live setting. If heavy music is in your wheelhouse get your hands on Shock To The System, you really can’t go wrong.
