Horizon Line: A Place In Time

Horizon Line is French alternative rock band having formed in 2018 after Julien Buffard left his previous band. The band started working on their debut album over the pandemic. A Place In Time was released in 2018. Joining the lead vocalist and guitarist are:

Alan Mansard (lead guitar)
Cédric Capdevielle (bass)
Mateo Bizeul (drums)

A Place In Time is a solid alt rock album that is more creative than your average fare. The first track “Over And Over” begins with some cool storm effects and eerie sounds before the guitar enters with a neat, almost muted riff. Enter the vocals which fit the band’s rock/metal leanings like a glove and are very effective. A barrage of heavy guitar follows, providing plenty of energy. “More Than A Lover” has a great groove and riff, where the guitar has a keyboard-like vibe. On the catchy title track the guitar attacks with razor-like precision and the slightly processed vocals sound great. The distant sounding backing vocal is a cool effect. “Astheny” is an edgy mid-tempo number whereas “Post Manhattan” features an interesting drum rhythm, moody electronics, and heavily processed voice samples. Its short, but features one of the edgiest soundscapes on the disc.

This one didn’t hit me immediately but eventually it started to sink in and now am very much enjoying this debut album. With each successive listen, more hidden treasures are revealed, making A Place In Time easily recommended for fans of modern rock music.
