Nocturnal Graves: An Outlaw’s Stand
My fellow Australian countrymen, Nocturnal Graves, have been progressively growing in reach since way back in 2004. Having released a few successful demos they eventually released the cult classic Satan’s Cross in 2007 which gained the band some more notoriety. Following up with ...From The Bloodline Of Cain which helped grow their international base even further. Leading up to 2018’s third album Titan the band went through some line up changes and In 2019, NOCTURNAL GRAVES joined forces alongside DESTRÖYER 666, DEAD CONGREGATION, and INCONCESSUS LUX LUCIS and embarked upon the Sons of Rebellion tour throughout Europe. All this leading up to their latest offering to the demonic lord of evil, An Outlaw’s Stand.
Nocturnal Graves have fostered an unrelenting and punishing style which blends Death, Thrash and Black Metal to create a fine tuned demonic ferociousness that while executed with precision is still nasty and ripe with the smell of decaying corpses and blood soaked scenes of decay. The riffing rips hard throughout from the first moments of the opener “Death to Pigs”, which is totally kickass to the last black metal pummeling at the end of the title track. The mixing of styles is seamless and everything feels very organic. No studio trickery or overly polished cringe to be found here. Just non-stop in your face pummeling. There are of course some great lead guitar moments thrown in for good measure as well and the vocal delivery is dark and murky and perfect for the overall atmosphere of unforgiving death and destruction. While the black metal is there through most of the album the death metal elements they fuse into the music gives the whole thing a bigger heavier sound overall.
Nocturnal Graves have done a great job on An Outlaw’s Stand at blending the familiar elements of those classic styles into something that feels genuinely evil and demonic yet also very musical and totally badass. All performed with the power and confidence of a band with this kind of veteran experience. Fans of extreme metal with a fusion of Black, Thrash and Death, especially of bands like Destroyer 666 for example, will definitely enjoy what’s on offer here.
