Groundbreaker: Soul to Soul

FM’s stupendous frontman Steve Overland returns with the third Groundbreaker installment entitled Soul to Soul, graciously accompanied by the incredible talents of the Frontiers Records favourite Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge of Forever, Voodoo Circle) on keys, Herman Furin (Work of Art) on the tubs, Nailey Pahisson (Gathering of Kings, Last Autumn’s Dream, ex-Vindictiv, ex-Treat, Therion) on the chunky strings and Sven Larrson (ex-Street) on guitar responsibilities.

Primarily, this is an outstanding record from start to finish, it is colourful in texture, emotively expressive and the melodies are just purely magnificent. From the very first listen this is an absolute banger, I cannot recommend this album enough and Steve’s soul to soul vocal lines are just naturally perfect in every way possible. I actually enjoyed this more than the last two FM offerings and that is saying something.

When you have Melodic Rock anthemic numbers like the tremendously created dynamic wavelengths of ‘Evermore’, the captivating essences of the divinely passaged single ‘Standing on the Edge of a Broken Dream’, and the AOR smothered melodious chasms of the wonderfully crafted ‘Wild World’, you just keep on wanting and craving that little bit more every single time. I do not think I can speak any more highly of the superb grains of musicality on offer here and I feel through other endeavors like the catchy straight tempo rocker ‘Carrie’, the splendid aura of dwelling in the likes of ‘Leap of Faith’ and the championing atmospheric value of ‘It Don’t Get Better Than This’, for me Soul to Soul is an ultimate winner to be without any shadow of doubt to be the best Melodic Rock outing I have heard in a very long time. Highly recommended for fans of FM, Work of Art, Treat and Bad Habit or anything that is the same vein of Melodic Rock greatness.
