Fierce Atmospheres: The Speed Of Dreams

Fierce Atmospheres’ 2nd full length album The Speed Of Dreams was released in September 2021. The album passed me by last year, however it came across my desk for review this year and was certainly worth a listen.

Fierce Atmospheres play an interesting blend of metal styles; they carry the Prog-Power tag with pride, but in some respects their sound is a relatively classic heavy metal sound. At times you can hear the European Power Metal influences in their music, and others the American heavy rock influences are more obvious. Fierce Atmospheres certainly mix things up, however I wouldn’t necessarily call them prog. It’s all semantics though- whatever the tag, the album is a decent listen.

The vocals on the album are an immediate focal point for me and they’re a little reminiscent of Joey Belladonna’s work on the last couple of Anthrax albums. The band in general are solid as a rock too -the performances on the album hit the brief across the board. My favourite track on the release is Fear is a One Way which has some relatively unique riffing and particularly memorable vocal lines. I can see why it was chosen as the lead single.

The album was mixed and mastered by Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studios in Sweden. He did a good job with the album and no doubt having someone like La Rocque associated with the album will no doubt help the band reach a wider audience than they might otherwise have been able to reach.
