THR33: THR33

THR33 is a British power trio that released their self titled debut album in 2020. Although the band’s discography is small, these veteran musicians have individually appeared or performed with the likes of Sonja Kristina, Van Morrison, Ten, Colosseum, Chris Farlowe, PP Arnold, Dennis Chambers, and many others.

The album is a nice mix of blues, jazz and prog underneath the rock umbrella. The melodies are catchy, the musicianship is excellent, and the lead vocals have just the right amount of grit and melodicism. The disc begins with “Set Me Free�, a tune steeped in liquid-like jazzy guitar leads, organ embellishments and pleasant lead vocals. The ‘70s is certainly an influence, the fusion stylings of Jeff Beck comes to mind. All in all, this one is a real treat for the ears. The second track “Behind You� features dramatic Yes-like rhythms, biting organ work, delicious vocal harmonies and a gritty, bluesy guitar solo. “Freefall� is an outstanding slice of rock fusion where Mason shows exceptional talent on guitar adding some excellent, fusion laced solos. Rhythmic changes add the progressive element. Heavy swashes of organ and languid trippiness highlight “Shadows� where I was reminded of the English band Preacher. The guitar and organ also brings to mind the mighty Floyd.

All through these nine tracks the band displays great musicianship, pleasant lead vocals and catchy melodies. Anyone who enjoys Pink Floyd and the ‘70s guitar work of Jeff Beck will find plenty to enjoy. Highly recommended!
