1945: Heavy Metal is Not For Sale

1945 hail from Salamanca/Spain and play a brand of heavy metal that is equally influenced by Traditional Heavy Metal and Thrash. Their debut album entitled Heavy Metal is Not For Sale was released at the back end of 2021.

Heavy Metal is Not For Sale is a collection of 11 tracks and has a run time of just under 1 hour. The album has some highlights; however it also has all the hallmarks of a debut album from an independent band (the good and bad and the ugly).

On a positive note, there’s a good energy on this album; you can hear that the band are enjoying what they are doing, and there are some admirable qualities in what they do too. The up tempo, thrashy, tracks prove to be the highlights for my taste. Conversely, they’ve included a lot of material on this release, and whilst all of it has some merit I feel as though it could have been trimmed down -we’d then have a more potent/focused release. The riffing and instrumentation are pretty good generally, however there are some sections, especially in the more mid placed, mellow sections, where I’d suspect they might have liked to spend some extra studio time to refine their vision.

The band are a female fronted outfit, with Sarah Garcia handling vocals. Her approach is a mix of snarling lower register (sounding a little similar to Bobby Blitz at times) and melodic highs. There are times where the vocals are a little unconvincing for me, but generally she provides a good focal point for the bands sound-there’s no doubt that you can hear her passion for the music.

Whilst I don’t suspect this will be an album that I’ll feel compelled to revisit a great deal, 1945 have made enough of an impression on me that I’ll keep an eye out for them over the coming years.
