Seremonia: Neonlusifer

Finland’s Seremonia inhabit that strange world that is Psych Rock, a genre born in the late 60`s that spawned the likes of the 13th Floor Elevators, The Doors, Os Mutantes and many more lesser known names. Seremonia have taken it upon themselves to take up the reins of where a lot of the aforementioned bands left off back in the day.

This is the bands 5th album, and has plenty to offer fans of said genre. Opener `Väärä Valinta` flies out of the traps like a Greyhound that’s not seen a rabbit (real or otherwise!) for months. It’s a full on Psych fest, with fuzz guitars very much to fore and an earnest vocal to push the band’s music to its limits. From there on in it really doesn’t let up. The title track is another galloping number, and `Naamiot` displays a deft touch in that it’s really quite melodic. It’s left up to `Raskasta Vettä` to finally take a breather and it’s a suitably eerie number that is punctuated with strange soundscapes that take a bow at the altar of Pink Floyd.

`Unohduksen Kidassa` is, to my ears at least the albums most commercial offering and it will come as no surprise that his was chosen as the first single. It’s got some definite Doors overtones, which is no bad thing in my book, with its hypnotic drone and sense of the dramatic.

`Kaivon Pohjalla` and `Tuolle Puolen Auringon` are both tracks that are back to the thrash Psych that the band obviously revel in. The enthusiasm really does cut through on both numbers, and the final cut `Maailmanlopun Aamuna` has a melodic edge to it that shows that the band have more than one string to their particular bow.

This is a strong, vibrant album that for fans of this often overlooked genre (I`m one by the way) will find more than enough to keep them happy.
