Soom: Djebars

Here is another interesting find, this time from the Ukraine. The band is Soom and I believe this album, titled Djebars, released in 2018 is their last album before disbanding in 2019. The music presented here is very experimental and overall, quite intense. Noise rock, doom, stoner, with tons of fuzz and distortion. The atmosphere exudes creepiness, imagine being fully immersed in a horror environment with no means of escape. The disc begins with “Above The Sequoias: Origin”, an intense creep fest of unsettled drones and eerie atmospheric moods. Very experimental and certainly meant to be listened to on headphones. Next, we have the ten plus minute “Burned Out”, filled with tension as the distortion rumbles and the riffs relentless in their frenzied attack. The doomy fuzz and distortion comes on thick and heavy with the sludgy, noise driven rock of “Under A Gleam The Dream Is Hidden”, a major tripped out listen that will transport you into the band’s skewed musical universe. The bass playing is as intense as it gets. The grinding freak outs continue as there are seven more tracks to explore.

It's weird, heavy, moody, and completely unorthodox and while not for everyone, those looking for a more experimental listen would do well to give this one a spin, and oh yeah, be prepared to be scared out of your mind.

The following labels were involved with this release: Robustfellow Prods, Voron Nest Records and the Addicted Label.
