Now for something a little different: A one-man band with the mission of keeping the Beatles spirit alive with a punchy and fun sound reminiscent of the Fab Four's catchiest work. The Poppermost is Joe Kane -- a multi-instrumentalist from Glasgow who plays all instruments, sings all vocals and handles all production duties from his garage studio dubbed “Fabby Road.” (Get it?)
The attention to detail on Hits To Spare’s 14 tracks -- each of which clocks in under 3:30 -- is impeccable. Multiple vocal tracks, tight song structures and arrangements steeped in nostalgia make this the perfect kind of ear candy on which the entire power-pop movement was built. Hits To Spare sounds as if it were recorded by John, Paul, George and Ringo themselves using updated technology. In fact, Shindig magazine summed up The Poppermost perfectly by calling this “forward thinking retro-tastic music.”
