Ten Years After: Naturally Live

Bluesy rock-n-roll from veterans Ten Years After, a band that I was unaware was still active. Ten Years After have disbanded and reformed a number of times over the years with original guitarist Alvin Lee who unfortunately passed in 2013. The latest lineup consists of original members Ric Lee on drums and Chick Churchill on keyboards. New members Colin Hodgkinson (bass), and Guitarist/Vocalist Marcus Bofanti, who has the unenviable task of filling the shoes of Alvin Lee. Bofanti displays his rocking chops throughout the disc, and also plays harmonica when called upon to do so. His gritty vocals fit perfectly, but the newer songs don’t seem to have the memorable passages that will keep you coming back for repeated listens. The audience is treated to their best known classics “I’d Love to Change the World” and “I’m Going Home” which are the crowd pleasers. There’s a nice break in the middle featuring the band playing acoustic and you get to hear more of Churchill’s keyboards. Ultimately, as good as the band play and sound, it does feel like the name is being used to draw the crowds, as I can’t see this record stirring much excitement unless you are a diehard fan.
