Jim Peterik & World Stage: Tigress-Women Who Rock the World

I'm a big, no, make that BIG fan of Jim Peterik and his relentlessly upbeat take on the world but not the Ides of March. Everything else, love it. That's Survivor, his solo stuff, Pride of Lions and the first World Stage albums. Here we find uncle Jim in somewhat of a concept mode specifically Women Who Rock the World- some of whom you may know, some you might need a refresher.

In Peterik's own words, "I discovered that I needed to write songs that reflected the female perspective more than the male. It was gratifying when such as Janet Gardner (ex-Vixen), Cathy Richardson (Jefferson Starship), Jenniffer Batten, Mindi Abair, Kate French, Kimi Hayes, Chez Kane, Rosa Laricchiuta (Black Rose Maze, Trans-Siberian Orchestra)... many others gave me the big thumbs up! Up-and-comers like Lindsay Kent, Leslie Hunt, Chloe Lowery, Marine Lacoste, and so many others all added their unique personalities to make this a landmark album in my career."

“ A landmark album in my career.” Considering the guy co-wrote all the Survivor hits plus "Vehicle" (Yuk) for Ides of March plus some of 38 Special's biggest hits that sets the bar pretty high. Fortunately, time after time whether in the mainstream spotlight or not Peterik (to use an Americanism) has knocked it out of the park and the spherical object is soaring over the bleachers yet again on Tigress.

The obvious place to start is with the two pre-release singles namely "Prom Night In Pontiac" voiced by the supremely powerful voice of Chloe Lowery which is your typical upbeat Peterik melodic rocker. The song zooms along with more hooks than an illegal fishing trawler - an illegal trawler with some tasty guitar work to boot. "A Cappella" is very much the same as is much of the album but as is always the way with Peterik's writing it is the relentless positivity and joy which shines through. "The Best of Us" actually gives the impression that he believes in the power of music as a force for good and despite discussing climate and war he stays super positive- ditto the excellent "Fallen".

You will notice that I am not specifically writing about each individual woman singer/guitarist/drummer/bassist/violinist/saxophonist as they are uniformly excellent, I mean they were chosen by Jim Peterik and in reality despite the lofty ambition of writing for women the album comes across as a Peterick album. Most of these songs could easily have been part of a Pride of Lions album sung by Toby Hitchcock and that's a really good thing. Thing is, there will probably another similar sounding Peterik album next year and those in the know will be excited and the rest of the world probably won't notice.
