Chick Corea Akoustic Band with John Patitucci & Dave Weckl: Live

I must admit that I am still feeling the loss of Chick Corea this past February. Few artists have displayed his combination of skill and passion, this was a man who lived and breathed music. Chick’s live performances showcased his boundless energy, as he coaxed his fellow musicians to push themselves, and engaged the audience to participate. His love for music was most evident.

Live showcases these three musicians still at the top of their game. After such a long hiatus, the band picks up as if 20 years had never passed. Yes, they had continued to play together over the years, but with the Elektric band. The 2-CD set was recorded on January 13, 2018 at SPC Music Hall in St. Petersburg Florida. According to the liner notes they only rehearsed the night before, and performed twice on the 13th. Listening to the set, one can imagine sitting in a small club swept away by the virtuosity and energy of the show. The simple combination of Piano, Bass, and Drums creates sheer magic. Nothing matches the intimacy of a live performance, and the band delivers. Beautiful music played to perfection, what else needs to be said? Rest in Peace Maestro, thank you for sharing your gift of music with us all!
