Piledriver: The Boogie Brothers Live in Concert

European hard rock band Piledriver started out as a Status Quo tribute act in the mid ‘90s. In 2015 the band signed with the German label Rockwall Records and played the Wattenscheid town hall to celebrate their then twentieth anniversary. Another major change for the band was the hiring of former Accept drummer Stefan Kaufmann for production duties. In 2017 Piledriver released the show as a Blu-ray/2 CD set. It’s a big package including twenty-two tracks along with bonus material including videos, slideshow and other goodies. The concert features tracks from their entire career including a few Status Quo tunes. The concert solidifies Piledriver as a solid rock and roll band as they really cook through this entire set. I dig their two guitar attack as it adds lots of fireworks to the proceedings like the huge boogie rock riffs in the Status Quo original “Rockin’ All Over The World� and the dual guitar riffs in the excellent feel good rock and roll of “Top Of The Bill� with its head sticking melody and fine harmony vocals. More fiery boogie rock can be heard on “Down Down�, another Status Quo tune and the gritty rock of “One Way To Rock� is a powerful statement. The band certainly does have one way to rock and that’s loud and fast.

The sound and video quality are very good and although the band has a pretty basic stage show, this concert is more about the musical substance than props and lights.

The two CDs include the same track listing as the concert Blu-ray as well as the previously unreleased track “Julia�, a super catchy mid-tempo pop rock ballad that would later be found on their next album Rockwall, released in 2018.

Fans of classic rock and roll should really enjoy this one. A solid performance from a veteran rock band, keeping the rock and roll banner flying high. Recommended.
