Echo Us: The Windsong Spires

Described as a musical journey back to the earth’s atmosphere, weaving ethereal, classical voice with trademark ambient sound waves. The guitar work reminds me of Steve Rothery of Marillion, especially the picked and chord voicings in the first track “We Seek The Descending Levers”. Even though it is described as Ethereal and atmospheric, the music does have some muscle behind it, and excels at creating those heavenly atmospheres. “The Night Sky” is a beautiful piano piece, and this is exactly what Echo Us are best at, creating a mood with a piece of music. “Squals” is about the guitar, featuring the most aggressive lead taken on the album, and it is my favorite track, as everything blends together well. Another favorite “And When They Dance At Dusk” is an all instrumental that has an Asian flavor to the music, but again creates those atmospheres we love from ambient music. What is a bit off putting are the male vocals, whether it is an effect or the actual voice, it’s reminiscent of the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz (not joking). There are duets of male and female vocals, but that male voice is distracting at best, and off putting at its worst. Unfortunately, getting past the vocals proved difficult, and put a damper on the music. An all-instrumental offering from this band, or even the use of the female vocals would drastically improve the listening experience.
