Humavoid: Lidless

Let the heaviness continue…

It seems the heavy music keeps on coming and for this latest excursion we visit northern Europe, specifically Finland and the band Humavoid. The band has been around for a while and last year released their first full length album titled Lidless.

The band play serious technical progressive metal that borders on the weird and bizarre. The music is heavy and the guitar riffs are constantly shifting keys and tempos, bludgeoning the listener senseless as you try to make sense of it all. Interspersed with jazzy keyboards and piano, the music has a high degree of chaos as there is some serious musicianship going on. As far as the vocals go, they are generally intense with both singers adding mostly screams and growls. I prefer the growls over the screams and the album did get a bit draining after a while, the constantly shifting barrage of heaviness having a powerful but fatiguing effect on the old head and ears. Bands like Meshuggah would be a definite reference point.

If you like music outside the box, pushing the boundaries of conventionality, give Lidless a listen for yourself. Just brace yourself for the inevitable impact…
