Final Floor appears to be the swan song for Throttle Elevator Music. The albums tracks were recorded between 2013 and 2020, and I am immediately struck by how well the instruments find their own place in the mix, really nice production on this disc. Opening with the trance like “Supraliminal Space”, the song seems to lean more towards improve to these ears. Horns are upfront through most of the disc featuring Erik Jekabson (Trumpet) and Kamasi Washington (Tenor Sax), who work incredibly well together. The horns float above the foundations created by the band, and are allowed to soar. “Daggerboard” has an ethereal atmospheric quality, probably my favorite track on the disc. “Ice Windows” slowly builds the intensity, but continues to settle into a more laid back groove. The second half of the disc gets the band rocking with the title track and “Heart of Hearing” kicking things up a notch. The 48 seconds of “Standards Reproached” is just a ripping punk like punch that leads into the bouncy bassline of “Fast Remorse” that propels the song. A very enjoyable album, great atmosphere and musicianship.
