McKnight, Sandy w/ Fernando Perdomo: SanFernando Blitz

We here at SoT are big fans of Fernando Perdomo, with the wide and various musical activities this ever busy Italian musician and composer involves himself in never failing to excite. One of his latest endeavours is alongside Sandy McKnight, as the pair move into a power-pop position with a set of songs that evoke the late 60s in their Beatlesy outlook.

Yes, it’s all a little throwaway in places and we don’t really get to hear the musical virtuosity we’ve come to expect from Perdomo, although he plays guitars, keys and drums excellently throughout. However, if you’ve found something more memorable than “Living On The West Side” - which is the sort of thing Ryan Hamilton used to specialise in - this year, then I’m certainly yet to hear it. While McKnight, who also handles bass, has the classic, muted voice for the style the pair present, his soothing tones on “Pay It Any Mind” and “Why Make Promises?” taking us deep into the more restrained fare that Donnie Vie used to front with Enuff Z’nuff.

If you’re looking for the intricate progressive tones that usually come from Fernando Perdomo, then in truth that’s not what this 15 minute EP is all about. However, if you’ve delved into his albums such as Zebra Crossing then you’ll understand why this collaboration with Sandy McKnight came to be. You’ll also feel right at home with the smooth, relaxed, but catchy fare they create.
