Ritual King: Ritual King

U.K. band Ritual King hail from the city of Manchester and in 2020 the band released their self titled debut album. Previously the band released a couple EPs which I have not heard. This heavy hitting power trio consists of Jordan Leppitt (lead vocals, guitar), Daniel Godwin (bass) and Gareth Hodges (drums, backing vocals).

This is some of the best retro/stoner rock/metal I have heard all year. Awesome riffs and grooves held together with Leppitt’s outstanding lead vocals, clean, clear and melodic. The guitars are both clean and fuzzy so you really get the best of both worlds beginning with the lead off track “Valleys�. Distortion soaked guitar riffs and tasty drum work made all the more interesting with varying changes of pace. On the retro sounding “No Compromise� clean and fuzzed out guitar create a blending of sounds that will have six string fans frothing at the mouth. It is all very catchy with lead vocals slightly resembling Ozzy at his best. Just an excellent track. The slowly dripping psychedelic rock of “Headspace� and the rippingly heavy “Black Hills� are more excellent tracks.

With excellent melodies, sound song writing, strong vocals, and deep grooves, Ritual King have come out with an all-out winner. For fans of Blues Pills, Kyuss, Wolftooth, and all others who are appreciate guitar based rock.
