Arshenic: Final Collision

Arshenic is a Polish gothic metal band with a couple of albums to their credit, their latest titled Final Collision, released in 2019. The band mixes various forms of metal, modern rock and even bits of pop peeking through occasionally, all melded together constructing quite an intoxicating brew.

The title track starts the disc with a melodic gothic metal vibe. I hear a little Evanescence ion this one adding that pop-like element I mentioned above. The female vocals are excellent, and the guitar riffs are heavy, but not overly so. It is all very well composed and pretty catchy overall. The use of male growls adds a contrasting element, sparingly used but highly effective. On “Dear Remorse” the tempo is slower, the almost doom-like guitar riffs burning with sustain. There is a darker thread running through the soundscape mixed with a bit of melancholia and the vocals are delivered with the necessary passion and emotion. The excellent “Follow” bursts out of the gate with a super tasty riff progression that is more alternative rock than metal. Quieter moments are interwoven within the song’s heavier fabric complete with smooth transitions and solid musicianship. “Rabbit Hole” is another mood laden piece with tight musicianship, like the nifty stop/starts and fine riffs on display throughout. “Madness” is my favourite track; I especially dig the riffs slashing through the quieter soundscape. I hear some Evanescence in this one as well.

Final Collision is a fine album of modern rock/metal that in a perfect world would find a wide ranging audience. As such, this one earns an excellent four stars, so please, do yourself a favour and check it out.
