Alter Bridge: Walk The Sky 2.0

Released at the tail end of 2020, Walk The Sky 2.0 is both a thank you to the fans of Alter Bridge and a reminder of something we all crave for right now, live music. Featuring one blistering new track and six live cuts from the band’s most recent studio outing, Walk The Sky, 2.0 comes in a variety of formats, with some packaged as a two disc version alongside the 2019 album itself.

It’s the new studio cut, “Last Rites� that opens things up, a huge riff being surely one of the heaviest, meatiest offerings that Mark Tremonti has created for his main band. With drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall matching him every step of the way the effect is a full force extravaganza that explodes at every turn. All that’s left is for singer Myles Kennedy to swoop and soar behind the mic and as you’d expect, that’s exactly what he does.

Not that the six live cuts are second best. In fact nothing could be further form the truth, with the clarity and potency of the recording actually affording the likes of “Pay No Mind� and “In The Deep� to reveal nuances that maybe didn’t quite show up on the album they came from. And there’s no let up, “Godspeed� and “Dying Light� a cornucopia of what has made Alter Bridge such a force to be reckoned with. Brutal one minute, beautiful the next, the ground covered by this outfit never once feels unfocused or just for show. That’s a factor that anyone who has had the good fortune to catch this band live will already be able to confirm. For those who have not, this may well be the next best thing.

Put quite simply, that a stopgap release like this can arrive with such gravitas really does confirm that Alter Bridge are one of, if not the hottest current rock act out there right now.
