Parry, Ian: In Flagrante Delicto

British rock vocalist Ian Parry Has been quite prolific the past three decades, whether delving into his considerable solo repertoire or his involvement with Dutch symphonic metal band Elegy, he has certainly put his stamp on some rock-solid albums. I first became aware of Ian after exploring his Consortium Project releases, all top shelf stuff for sure. The man is back this year with his latest solo album titled In Flagrante Delicto, his fifth solo effort.

If catchy, ‘70s inspired classic rock music turns your fancy, In Flagrante Delicto will surely satisfy. Lots of moody edges and soloing to keep it all very interesting. Speaking of solos, the guitar work is highlighted throughout the disc on pretty much every track beginning with the album opening “Spaceman”. Pulsating electronics and keyboards and a cool crunchy groove with great vocals to top it all off. Parry’s melodic vocals are all over this one. More moody grooves and guitar work can be heard on “Traveller’s (Across The Unknown Universe)”, another super catchy proggy hard rock track. The title track has a darker vibe, edgier than the first two tunes, with an Ayreon-like chorus and intermittent riffs slicing through the soundscape. The keyboard and guitar sinuously weaving through the sound layers adding another dimension to what is a fantastic track. With the excellent “Impulse”, sparkling keyboards, razor edged riffs and powerful vocals forms another addictive tune. Love the upbeat keyboard solos and melodies, absolutely earworm material. I have to add Parry has some great players backing him up, a top notch band for sure.

Really, the entire disc is a great listen. I am extremely impressed with Parry’s latest, a work that oozes quality from start to finish.
