Bad As: Crucified Society

Bad As is a hard rocking unit from Montebellum, Italy. The band was put together in 2016 by bass player Alberto Rigoni, who has nine solo albums to his credit. Bad As has released three albums thus far; More Pain More Gain (2017), Midnight Curse (2018) and their latest effort titled Crucified Society.

Conceptually, the album delves into the future of society, a cyberpunk culture where selfishness and instant gratification is the order of the day. Perhaps we should be wary what the future holds in store for humanity. The album cover depicts a crucifixion and people standing around the cross taking videos and wanting to be noticed. So much for the good Samaritan…

So what exactly does this band bring to the table? Let’s see, heavy guitar riffs and solos, aggressive drumming, some great bass grooves and a varied vocal approach that is really quite strong. This is a rocking album that lies somewhere between heavy rock and metal.

The title track kicks things off with a pummeling drum attack and energetic guitar riffage. The vocals are excellent with an added intensity when required. The soaring melodic chorus had me right away and the guitar riffs are really catchy. Some shredding guitar and another catchy chorus highlights “Endless Race” and in the groove laden “Free Falling” the band slow it down showcasing some moody guitar work with just the right amount of edge. The quirkier heavy rock of “Divided” has a very modern and updated sound while “Mind Kind” starts soft before the blistering intensity begins in earnest. Another solid track.

Crucified Society is a fine album from a band I was not familiar with. That makes it all the more rewarding, the unexpected delight of discovering a talented band with a batch of killer songs. Easily recommended for fans of heavy rock and metal.
