Book Of Wyrms: Remythologizer

Book Of Wyrms is a heavy doom/stoner band hailing from Virginia with two full length albums to their credit. They released their debut titled Sci-Fi Fantasy in 2017 and followed it up with 2019’s Remythologizer, the subject of this review.

Let me start by saying this is an excellent doom inspired album. The burning, slowly evolving guitar patterns are all over these six tracks beginning with the heavy “Autumnal Song”. The riffs have a good amount of heft and muscle without overpowering everything in their path and the lead vocals are effective. Sure Lindsey does not have a super powerful voice but what she has is used to fit the songs and grooves in an almost perfect manner. In “Blacklight Warpriest” the band does a great job of slowing and speeding up the tempo and the bass line and groove is killer. The catchiest track is probably “Undead Pegasus” as something about the guitar and vocals made it stick in my brain long after the music stopped playing. Always a good sign. The short synth driven “Curse of the Werecop” and the burning doom of “Spirit Drifter” are more cool tracks. The album ends with the nine plus minute “Dust Road” showcasing more tasty guitar and cool mysterious atmospheres. I found this one to be highly representative of the album artwork, which is really quite good.

So there you have it. Another fine slice of doom metal to excite the senses. Easily recommended.

A Twin Earth Records release.
