Shatter Brain: Pitchfork Justice
Shatter Brain has only been around for a couple of years, but they’ve been getting lots of attention for their aggressive music that successfully blends elements of punk, crossover, thrash, and good old classic metal. If you go on the band’s Bandcamp page, you can find their demo (which was mastered by Joel Grind) and their and their 12” split with Blunt Shovel. Both are worth checking out. The demo sounds amazing and the 12” includes a straightforward and very solid cover of Mastodon’s “Blood and Thunder.”
Pitchfork Justice, the band’s debut album, is a nice follow up to everything that’s come before. Aside from the very mellow instrumental “Life Ephemeral,” the whole album is nothing more than a punch in the face inspired by the best of punk and crossover. Most of the lyrics have to do with the ways social media is so often used to pass judgment on others without much thought or investigation. Fans of punk rock played in the style of Power Trip, Black Breath, Superjoint Ritual, or High on Fire should definitely enjoy this album. Check out “Talk in Fear,” “Pitchfork Justice,” and “Death Goes on.”
