Lightning Born: Lightning Born

Another awesome album I am catching up with these days is the self-titled debut disc from Lightning Born, hailing from North Carolina. The band formed in 2016 and feature a veteran group of musicians with a wealth of experience behind them including bassist Mike Dean, formerly of Corrosion of Conformity. The rest of the band is Brenna Leath (vocals), Erik Sugg (guitars) and Doza Hawes (drums).

This is one of the most powerful rock/metal albums I have heard in a long time. The drums crash with unending fury and the guitar riffs are heavy, fuzzy and catchy, with riff progressions that will stick around your brain, firing your synapses until they have etched into your grey matter. In other words, besides being heavy its catchy too. The vocals are also excellent, just listen to Brenna’s powerful voice on the breathlessly heavy “You Have Been Warned� and the riff laden heavy rocker “Power Struggle�. Heavy doom and even heavier fuzz make “Silence� a heavy metal juggernaut and the ‘70s is alive and well in the album opening “Shifting Winds�, a great way to start your journey. In every song the riffs, vocals and rock solid rhythm section absolutely took my breath away. This is a band that all fans of heavy music will want to hear from in the coming months…and years.
