Virginia based heavy psychedelic/stoner rock ensemble Seven Planets recently came out with their third platter titled Explorer. Their two previous releases; the band's debut titled Flight of the Ostrich (2008) and their second self-titled effort (2012) have unfortunately, not been heard by this reviewer.
After my first listen it was hard not to be impressed. If you enjoy guitar based rock music you need to hear this for yourself. The riffs come from every conceivable angle and their use of trippy guitar effects and psychedelic heavy rock tones is just so good. This band jams out to some great riffs beginning with the album opening “Vanguard” where the guitar riffs are trippy and just as tasty. The main riff is absolutely awesome. More psychedelic goodness and cool jamming can be heard on “Plain Truth In A Homespun Dress” and in the moodier title track the band’s trippy psychedelic sound is almost otherworldly. The heavy blues inflected riffs in “Great Attractor” makes for another superb track.
With a running time of less than forty minutes the album doesn’t overstay its welcome as some instrumental albums are prone to do. Fans of heavy psychedelic rock music would do well to check this one out. Highly recommended.
A Small Stone Records release.
