Despite the album’s title, the majority of Metal Shock -- the second album from T.I.R. -- is sung in the metal band’s native Italian tongue. These guys have been around since the dawn of the 1980s (and sound like it) but T.I.R. never managed to record a full-length album until 2011’s Heavy Metal. Now comes that record’s follow-up, Metal Shock.
T.I.R. make no secrets about their sound or their musical mission. The band’s name is an acronym for “Total Inferno Rock,” and T.I.R.’s Bandcamp page proclaims “THEY ARE … THE HEAVY METAL” (all caps theirs, not ours). Songs with English titles, like “Crazy Mama,” “Beat 150” and the title track still include mostly Italian lyrics. But they blend seamlessly with the high-voltage riffage, and it’s easy to sing along -- even if you don’t know what you’re saying.
If you like pure, raw, unfiltered heavy metal in the most traditional sense, try T.I.R. Just don’t mistake them for Tyr, the folk metal band from the Faroe Islands.
