Milan Polak has issued a new instrumental CD on Lion Music. Dreamscapes is the second CD from Polak, and the first on Lion Music. Like many of the Guitar driven CDs that have been released lately, Dreamscapes seems to be a one man show. The information pack and Lion Music's web site do not list any other perfomers.
Polak is considered a guitar whiz and the opening track, "Panic Room", is a straight ahead rocker with your standard shredding and wanking. But Polak does a good job of introducing many styles of music on this CD. Unlike other guitar-defined albums, Dreamscapes does a good job of staying fresh through most of the CD. From the slowed down title track, the Spanish guitars of "Spanish Romance", to the Irish Folk sounds of "Contrapuncture III" the CD doesn't rely on one style of playing.
Polak pulls off all of these styles very well, but doesn't add anything unique to them. There is little doubt of his talent as a musician, but the songs are not very memorable. Dreamscapes is recommended for anyone who can not get enough of solid guitar work. If you like instrumental albums, this is better than most.
