Dynazty: The Dark Delight

Dynazty have been knocking around longer than one might think. Formed in Stockholm Sweden in 2008 and with band members who have played alongside and with Lindemann, Joe Lynn Turner, Dee Snider and Pain, they've released a number of fine albums which have largely been lapped up by a small group of devotees. As is often the way with bands who aren't full-on Ed Sheeran style superstars group members have had to diversify and lead singer Nils Molin joined EDM-flavoured metallers Amaranthe in 2017 and they toured constantly until the coronavirus took hold so this makes him a very busy boy.

Molin says of the album, ”We pulled out all the stops, pulled no punches and held nothing back on this one. The Dark Delight is the complete vision of what this band has always wanted to be." He can be rightly pleased as, along with bassist Johnathan Olsson, guitarist Love Magnusson, drummer Georg Härnsten and other guitarist Mikael Lavér, The Dark Delight is a bit of a delight (couldn't resist that one) from top to bottom. In particular the middle of the album is really strong with the ballad "Hologram" which is destined to be a concert showstopper then the modern pop-metal, Nightwishy "Heartless Madness" which also echoes the recent Amberian Dawn album and features some highly nifty fretwork towards the end. It is one of those earworm songs which begs the listener to press repeat over and over again. The anthemic "Waterfall" is also placed nicely in the number seven slot and sparse riffs, solos and general fist thumping choruses all over the shop.

If AFM Records can get their shit together once the world returns to normal this is a hit record waiting to happen. It would be deeply depressing to see it get lost in the crap that's going around at the moment.
