War Cloud: State Of Shock

The heavy metal band War Cloud formed in Oakland, California in 2014 and have released two albums thus far, their latest is titled State Of Shock. These four musicians are clearly having some thrashy good old fashion fun reliving the ‘70s and ‘80s. Great riffs are scattered throughout the disc and at times the music is blindingly heavy like in the album opening track “Striker�. A siren-like sound leads to pounding drums and super-fast guitar riffs, really intense and very energetic. I hear a bit of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in this one. Next is the catchy “White Lightning� with its ripping guitar solo and melodically gruff lead vocals. This music isn’t precise and perfect, it’s rather lose and maybe even a little sloppy and I wouldn’t want it any other way. The pace is set a little slower on “Dangerous Game�, another tasty slice of addictive metal. The galloping riffs soon inject some lightning speed, only to slow down with some lovely guitar arpeggios. You can hear the emotion in the guitar and vocals, it’s almost palpable.

State Of Shock is one of those albums where you just know the band enjoyed recording. The more I listen, the more I’m hooked.
