ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band From Texas (Blu-Ray/DVD)

From Banger Films comes this fun documentary ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band From Texas, which takes a look at the career of Texas' blues rock power trio legends ZZ Top. Mostly centered on the early years and the rise to mega-stardom with Eliminator, the story is told by the band themselves as well as a few people who stood close by during their formative years. Spliced in between the stories from Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard are plenty of rare concert clips from throughout the '70s, including an informative section discussing and showing footage from the infamous 'Worldwide Texas Tour' of 1976, complete with bison, cattle, steer, and condors. In a poignant moment, Beard talks rather candidly of his battle with drug addiction in the mid '70s and his decision to finally get sober during the bands extended hiatus during that time period. There are also musical moments recorded recently at Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, which are sprinkled throughout the film. All in all, an insightful watch that may not bring to light any new revelations for old-school fans, but a great look at the formative years of one of rock's longest running bands.

The Blu-ray & DVD comes with bonus features, including all the Gruene Hall songs complete, and various full song clips from the '70s.
