DLG 3: Grease Trap

DLG 3 is a new instrumental trio hailing from New York City. In the band are Mike DeConzo (drums), John Lynch (guitar) and B3 organ specialists William Gorman and Greg Lewis, each taking turns on the individual tracks. Guest musician Larry Bustamante supplies baritone saxophone on track 4. Of the eight tracks, seven are covers of classic R&B and soul. The album opens with the Sly and the Family Stone classic “Stand” from 1969. The guitar work is catchy and the B3 solo is absolutely on fire. Just a great track with a great groove. Stevie Wonder’s “Living For The City” is next, another fine choice. A snappy rhythmic funky groove with the organ leading the charge, but it’s all kept rather low key and chill. It’s pretty jazzy as well. Love the snarling organ tones here along with the slow guitar solo played with tremendous feel. The funky “Lomy’s Homies” is the only original but it’s a good one with tasty lead guitar, B3 organ and a searing sax solo. This one is almost eight minutes of pure fun. The rest of the album is just as good as every track is a winner and these musicians lay down some great chops. I urge anyone into funk, R&B and instrumental music to check out these grooves pronto.

A Pep Jack Records release.
