National Wrecking Company: National Wrecking Company

National Wrecking Company is a hard rock band from the Seattle area. The band was formed by Randy Pratt (the Lizards, Cactus) on bass and Jimmy Kunes (Cactus, Savoy Brown) on lead and backing vocals. Also in the band are T.C. Tolliver (Wendy O Williams & The Plasmatics) on drums, Phil Bader (lead guitar), Neil Cicione (drums), Jesse Berlin (rhythm and lead guitar) and Scott Treibitz (keyboards).

This album could best be described as a full on aural assault as the vocals snarl and the guitars provide plenty of fireworks. This is pure down to the core gritty hard rock, as thread bare as music gets these days. The band is quite deeply rooted in the ‘70s, take the first track “Supersonic” which brings their heavy bluesy hard rock riffs to the forefront. This one is a real barn burner. The dual guitar attack on “King Of All To See” and the slower bluesy tinged riffs in “Beast” are more powerful highlights. The intensity is toned down a notch on the mid-tempo “Molotov” where Kunes’ lower end vocals are more melodic and the bass has a cool pulsating riff. The guitar work is again very tasty, some awesome soloing here. Doomy riffs and smoke piercing lead work highlight the awesomely powerful “Holy Creatures”, certainly one of my favourite tracks. Another favourite has to be the Blue Oyster Cult inspired “Blood Moon Rising” where the keyboards are more emphasized creating a chilling mood.

Really, if you dig ‘70s style hard rock, take Bad Company for instance, you should have no trouble enjoying this disc. I for one am loving this.
