Church On Monday: For Being There

After playing for seven years (only on Monday nights), at the Continental Club Gallery located in Austin, Texas, jazz band Church On Monday decided it was about time to lay down a live disc. The album is titled For Being There with its eight tracks (three originals and five covers) culled from three shows on January 21 ,28 and February 4 in 2019.

The feel good sounds begin with “Our Miss Brooks� as Haslanger’s melodic saxophone excursions take center stage, exploring those classic jazz sounds that one cannot help but enjoy. A laid back lead guitar solo and wonderful organ soon follows, continuing the tune’s melodic intent. A toe tapping bass and drum rhythm lead the band through its paces as more fantastic saxophone and percolating organ bubbles at the surface in the highly enjoyable “Bolivia�. Another showpiece for some outstanding soloing. The fanciful guitar picking and organ solo on “Black Door Jeannye� and the slow burning saxophone in the Haslanger original “For Being There� are more highlights to be explored.

Six wonderful musicians making music together. That’s a recipe for a great album and that’s precisely what For Being There is. Highly recommended.
