Eldanka: Rusty Treasures

Over the years there have been some very good guitar centric albums released from Finland and that quality continues with a band I have been unfamiliar with. Eldanka have been around for a while now having released their debut album Twangin’ Tritones in 2010. Their brand new release is titled Rusty Treasures.

If you dig guitar based music, more specifically surf music of the ‘60s and bands like The Shadows and The Ventures you should get a hold of this one. The album was recorded live in the studio and there is a freshness and a feeling of spontaneity that is really quite appealing. The twin guitars, rhythm and lead form the bulk of these songs with the rhythm section setting the pace, but with nuance as well, particularly in the slower sections. The adventurous “November” is perhaps the album’s most creative cut featuring varying moods and some stellar guitar work. The twangy guitar sound is dominant here, just listen to “Treasure” and the album’s catchiest track “Jopo - The First Ride” with its irresistible guitar melodies. Some of these tunes also channel the old American west like the catchy “Paranta Beach” with its jazzy horns filling in the sound. The album ends with the pretty guitar ballad “Springfields”, very pleasant on the ears indeed.

To put it simply, any fan of instrumental guitar music should hear what this band has to offer.
