Bill Hart is a renowned guitarist and composer based in Atlanta who has studied and performed seminars and clinics with the likes of Mike Stern and Scott Henderson. On Live at Red Clay Theatre, Hart leads his own six-piece band through a diverse back-catalog of satisfying instrumental jazz-rock during a 2017 set at the Duluth, Ga., venue now known as Red Clay Music Foundry.
“Deep Skies” boasts a deep rock groove, thanks to drummer Steven Walker’s anchoring and is followed by “Sara’s Song,” a laid-back piece that allows Hart to take the spotlight. The introspection of “This Is Why” is highlighted by a gorgeous sax solo courtesy of Alex McGinnis, and it contrasts nicely with the funky “Spazio Aperto” and the playful “Elected.”
Live at Red Clay Theatre features little banter with the audience, as Hart and his band prefer to let the music do the talking. The enthusiastic audience responds appropriately.
The overall effect of this 73-minute live performance is enough to spur curious listeners to seek out Hart's studio work on five previous albums.
