It’s that time of year again. Setting up the lights, getting out the eggnog, the relentless pursuit of the perfect gift and of course playing your favourite Christmas CD to get you into the Christmas spirit. Peter Curtis is a classically trained guitarist and on his new disc titled Christmas With Your Jewish Boyfriend, Curtis reinterprets twelve Christmas tracks written by Jewish composers. Curtis is an accomplished guitarist and while he never strays too far from the original melodies his creative tones and technique is easily heard throughout the disc. His playing is both heartfelt and sensitive on the first three tracks; “Winter Wonderland”, “White Christmas” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” displaying these qualities and much more. He also has lots of fun as his rendition of “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” and his own composition “Christmas With Your Jewish Boyfriend” easily demonstrates. The country undertones in “Silver Bells” makes for another relaxing piece.
These tunes bold well for his acoustic and electric guitar treatments, sounding both fresh and invigorated. If you are searching some new jazzy Christmas music you really can’t go wrong.
