Sacred Reich: Awakening

Back with a Thrashing vengeance are Phoenix’s Sacred Reich, with their 1st full-length release in 23 years, Awakening (Metal Blade Records). Equipped with crushing grooves and a refined and modern Thrash approach, Sacred Reich are back to be a formidable force in the Metal world.

Welcoming back drummer Dave McCain (ex-Machine Head) and new guitarist Joey Radziwill alongside longtime guitar player, Wiley Arnett, have provided a driving force behind Phil Rind’s vocals and driving bass playing. This quartet have thrown together a ferocious comeback album. From the needle drop on the title track and opening song, “Awakening”, it is evident that their no holds barred attitude is in full force. Rind’s vocals are spot on and tough and the band’s approach is very well steeped in the Priest meets Thrash groove and speed.

“Divide & Conquer” picks up the speed for these legendary Thrasher’s, while “Salvation” keeps the hammer down with a double bass pounding that takes no prisoners. “Killing Machine” reminds me of the groove of Pepper Keenan and Corrosion Of Conformity, which is a good thing. A great melody and tight guitar chugging is never a bad thing!

Clocking in at around 32 minutes, Sacred Reich deliver a tight and heavy comeback with Awakening and with today’s attention span getting shorter and shorter, this was a well laid out plan. This is easily the best record that Sacred Reich has created since their early 90’s heyday and a big welcome back to the Metal scene.
