RAM: The Throne Within

There are few better ways to mark the 20th anniversary of your band than releasing a strong new album that continues to sound like you. RAM have managed to do just that with their record, The Throne Within, that finds the Swedish quintet delivering an album that is steeped with deep roots in classic 70’s and 80’s Heavy Metal.

The Throne Within is packed with a power and that old school Metal feel, but with an updated aggression and grit. Vocals are upfront and definitely of the early 80’s underground Metal flavor. “Violence (Is Golden)� is a good showcase for all of that above and album opener, “The Shadowwork�, has an air of epic-ness to it, with haunting vocals and a driving riff.

RAM aren’t reinventing the wheel on The Throne Within and they’ve done this type of thing in the past, but it isn’t a bad thing to “do what you do�. This is the classic formula that RAM uses and they sound like themselves, which isn’t a bad thing at all and with celebrating their 20th anniversary, who would want them to all of a sudden sound like Mötley Crüe?! The Throne Within is a solid effort and a nice way to celebrity a big musical milestone that any band would be proud to acknowledge. If you’re a fan of RAM, then this record is for you.
