Here's a nice little surprise from UK metal act Promethium, an acoustic recording inspired by a 2017 set played at the SOS Festival where the band tackled stripped down acoustic versions of some of their more popular songs. They enjoyed it so much that it prompted actually going back into the studio and fine tuning things a little, and the results are Revisions, which features Steven Graham on vocals and Daniel Lovett-Horn on guitar, with guest vocals courtesy of Hannah Morris on "Visions". If you've been following the band throughout their previous three studio albums, you'll recognize many of these songs, however, there's a richness coming through here on these acoustic renditions and a heightened sense of melody that is quite rewarding for the listener. Tunes like "Nothing", "Tribute to the Fallen", "Shellshock", and especially "Rain" are just gorgeous here, chock full of haunting vocal hooks and splendid acoustic guitar tapestries...in fact, I'll dare say in this new 'format', many of these tracks now could have instant appeal to non-metal fans and cross over into the alternative rock & pop crowd quite easily. Who would have ever thunk that when discussing Promethium?
Revisions is a fun, lovely listen, revealing hidden nuances of songs that were already quite good in their more metallic original guises. Well done!
