Chapter 7: Frozen Fields

Now I am not expert on ‘90s rock music but Chapter 7’s sophomore album titled Frozen Fields screams of that decade. This isn’t a bad thing and perhaps it helps not to have been saturated with ‘90s music in the past. I found this to be quite a refreshing heavy rock album.

The Netherlands band formed in 2009 and in 2012 released their debut album titled Shadows Of My Yesterdays which I have not heard.

There are eleven tracks all on the short side so there isn’t a lot of room for extended instrumentation. Short and concise, with tight arrangements and good melodies. Upon listening I heard influences like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, a couple of excellent ‘90s bands so that’s a good thing in my book. Powerful and melodic lead vocals, a driving rhythm section and excellent riffs with plenty of heft is what this album is all about.

Some highlights include the excellent heavy rock of “Little by Little”, the outstanding guitar riffs and vocal melodies in “Down” and the somewhat moody title track which includes some gorgeous instrumental bits. There are more but I will leave that up to your discerning ears.

When I read about the ‘90s influences I must admit to being a bit hesitant with this one. That was unjustified as I am totally digging this album.

Released on Painted Bass Records.
