Mother Bass: Mother Bass

Mother Bass is a four musician collective based out of The Netherlands. After a few years of jamming together they decided to make it official after guitarist Friso Woudstra joined forces. The band released their self-titled debut in April of 2018.

Mother Bass have created a fine alternative rock album that while lacking a progressive complexity more than makes up for in conviction and soul. There is a Seattle grunge influence at play here led by the powerful voice of Daan Dekker. He has a gritty yet melodic delivery and is a fine singer. Backed by a solid rhythm section; Roel van Erp (bass guitar) and Roy Veltien (drums), this four piece rocks pretty hard beginning with the slow burning opening track “Five Fifteen�. Powerful vocals and riff progressions give this tune plenty of heft but the band do slow it down delving into mellower realms. A heavy distorted guitar riff begins “Silver Spoon�, a heavy almost doomy piece with Axel Rose style lead vocals. Cool tune. The galloping riffs in “Wolfman�, the moody guitar exploits in “Grand Old Town� and the slowly strummed chords in the hypnotizing “Strangers Once� are more album highlights.

If you are into bands like Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots there is a good chance you will really dig Mother Bass. They have a refreshing guitar based sound that will have many rock music fans turning their heads. I look forward to hearing where they go next.
