Entering Polaris: Godseed

Entering Polaris is a side project of Belgium guitarist Tom Tee (Thorium, Neo Prophet, 23 Acez, Ostrogoth, Quantum Fantay, Offworld) and drummer Vincent Van Kerckhove. The album is titled Godseed with the music in a progressive/power metal vein. There are a number of guest vocalists adding quite a bit of diversity, including Henrik Fevre (Anubis Gate), Thomas Vikström (Therion), Fabio Lione (Rhapsody, Angra) and Arno Menses (Sieges Even, Subsignal) to name but a few.

Tee and Kerckhove prove to be excellent musicians and as to be expected the vocals throughout the disc are superb. The music sticks to progressive and power metal but is not formulaic in the least and the melodies, both musically and vocally are highly listenable. The first two tracks; “Nostalgia For Infinity” and “Flightless” feature the excellent vocals of Henrik Fevre. The guitar and drum work are also noteworthy and the melodic saxophone solo in the latter is just so good. A very nice touch indeed. The progressive power metal of “It’s A Good Day For Burning Witches” is another highlight. Great vocals, this time from Therion’s Thomas Vikström and a superfast tempo will surely get your blood rising. The same is true for the title track, more killer guitar riffs and vocal melodies. The heavy yet super catchy “Clear Skies” is filled with huge slabs of thick guitar riffs and powerful drumming with soaring vocals during the chorus, courtesy of Lance King (Balance Of Power, ex-Pyramaze).This one may be the disc’s most memorable track.

I have been very impressed with Entering Polaris. Excellent musicianship and vocals should make metal fans very happy. Great stuff.

A Freya Records and Dutch Music Works release.
