Tomb Mold definitely grows faster than their name might suggest. In three years, the band has managed to record and release three albums and put in some time on the road. It helps that the band also plays some of the best and most uncompromising death metal out there. Sure, some people might poke fun at the band’s name or even some of their song titles. I still don’t know, for example, what to expect from the “Chamber of Sacred Ootheca,” a title from the band’s last album. But this is no time to overthink the conventions of death metal. Tomb Mold embraces them and I’m willing to follow along.
If you’re new to Tomb Mold, start here. The band has learned a great deal in their short lifespan, and this album is as crushing and powerful as it gets. The title track is an especially tight and relentless work while “Heat Death” shows off the band’s ability to balance the chuggy and the melodic while still managing to crush everything else around them. If you like those, be sure to check out “Infinite Resurrection” and “Cerulean Salvation.” Tomb Mold is definitely a band on the rise. Highly recommended.
