Vamacara: Mantras For The Manifold

Originally a German duo, although one of the pair now resides in Poland, Vamacara are comprised of N on drums and A (who from some sources would appear to be Arne Uekert (The Old Ones, Urd, Ctulu)) on, well the rest - guitar, bass and vocals. Mantras For The Manifold, a four track EP, would appear to be the band’s only release to date and even then, that one outing appeared back in 2017, with the band utilising a reasonably straight on take on black metal.

The surprisingly melodic “Jak Damajanti Placze Po Nalu� sets the scene, a low brooding chant rising as the excellent drum display powers this beast along. Big bold guitars also make their presence felt but in many ways it is a restrained introduction and one that is maintained throughout. Whereas “The Serpent Temple�, if anything, pulls back with some clean guitar underpinning the maelstrom and adding a different aspect as it does so.

Mantras For The Manifold can still be an uncompromising and singular beast but for its majority this is a cleverly focused affair that makes a stronger impact by not simply going for the throat. Whether that attack can maintain the same eye catching impression across a longer release only time will, possibly, tell.
