Arcane Ritual: Witch-Heart

Arcane Ritual is a gothic metal band having formed in 2015 in the San Francisco Bay area. The band is actually a duo; Teresa Camp (vocals) and Jarek Tatarek (all instruments). On their new album guest musician David Rivera plays violin on “Sea Of Darkness�. The band released an EP titled Enemy of the State which I have not heard, followed by their full length debut Witch-Heart which came out in early March of this year.

The disc kicks off with a bang with the dark and moody gothic metal of the title track. It’s a powerful tune with Camp’s strong lead vocals and Tatarek’s hooky guitar riffs. The next track “The Last Saviour� is heavier with crushing guitar riffs set at a furious pace. Camp’s vocals are more aggressive here suiting the overall heavier mood. On the catchy “Shifting Perception� the duo keep up the energetic pace with keyboards having a more dominant role supplementing the heavy guitar riffs very nicely. The shifting rhythms and start/stops showcases Tatarek’s considerable musicianship. More moody metal can be found on the darkly nuanced “Elemental Flames� and on the eight minute “The Storm� featuring excellent guitar, both acoustic and electric and Camp’s dynamic vocals.

Witch-Heart is a promising debut album from a band I expect to get even better on their next album. Recommended.
