Obzerv: Acherontia Atropos

Obzerv are a Greek Technical Extreme Metal band that offers a ton of dexterity and sonic exploration on their latest 9 track self-release, Acherontia Atropos. Formed in 2011, Obzerv have been carving out their mix of modern metal with heavy progressive leanings.

Despite the title, Acherontia Atropos is sung in English and will most likely be at home with fans of bands like Meshuggah, Gojira and Textures. Complex arrangements, deep rooted riffage and unrelenting vocals is what Obzerv brings to the Metal table. This Technical Death Metal release also fuses in a melodic feel within these songs and a song like, “Agitated� is a great example of this use. While the 9 minute plus, “Overthrown� allows the band to explore different tempos and soundscapes to paint their dark and ravenous picture.

Obzerv are on the right track with this self-release and I doubt they stay in that category for much longer. Acherontia Atropos is an unrestrained gateway into these Greek Metaller’s heavy imagination of creativity and I look forward to hearing what these guys come up with next. This is a solid record of modern metal with melodic temptation drenched in technical and dark landscapes.
