The Mute Gods: Atheists and Believers

The bass player from Steve Hackett and other artists - Nick Beggs.

The keyboard player from Steve Hackett- Roger King.

The drummer extraordinaire from The Sea Within, U.K. The Aristocrats, Levin-Minneman-Rudess-Marco Minnemann.

Blended together you have The Mute Gods. This is their 3rd album and I still have yet to explore Do Nothing Until You Hear From Me and Tardigrades Will Inherit The Earth, but I will and soon.

The music in this album is so enjoyable. Nick's voice is unique because he sings pretty low in the stanza but his melodies are pleasing and he doesn't ever force his singing. On the contrary it's quite natural and seemingly effortless. I sing and it's not easy to be so casual when the music is fairly heavy. There's a special guest on "One Day" who plays a sweet slide guitar solo,Alex Lifeson.

All these tracks are excellent, but I tend to dig instrumentals and "Sonic Boom" does the trick. Love that. Roger King plays way more as far as lead solos on a synthesizer than he gets to in Steve's band. Also, not every song is a rocker, "Old Men" sounds more like early 1970's Genesis, very sweet song that is a time machine if you'll let it. The closer, "I Think Of You", is so beautiful, reminds me of Genesis' "Silent Sorrow In Empty Boats" from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway mainly in the feel of the instrumental piece or peace.

The Mute Gods are awesome. Atheists and Believers is awesome.
